Have you heard about Freaky yet? If you haven’t, it’s likely only a matter of time. From Blumhouse Productions and Universal Studios, director Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy have put together a genre-blending movie that truly earns its title, but in a totally hilarious way. And the buzz is still beginning to grow.

Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics Consensus calls Freaky “an entertaining slasher” with “a gender-bending, body-swapping twist,” and claims this horror-comedy juggles both genres “with Freaky fun results.”

So let’s look into this new movie–most notably, where to watch it.

What is Freaky about?

As the New York Times puts it, Vince Vaughn explores his “feminine side” when his character “inhabits the body of a high-school girl in this slasher comedy.” And IMDb describes the hilarious and disturbing plot as:

"After swapping bodies with a deranged serial killer, a young girl in high school discovers she has less than 24 hours before the change becomes permanent."

Also of note, this one’s rated R for good reason. As reported by Rotten Tomatoes, Freaky contains a significant amount of graphic content, adult language throughout, and “strong bloody horror violence.” So consider yourself warned and prepare for an adult-only flick.

Freaky cast

Joining Vince Vaughn as the Blissfield Butcher in this horror-comedy is protagonist Millie Kessler (played by Kathryn Newton). Newton is famous for her roles in Big Little Lies, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Paranormal Activity 4. Also appearing in the movie are Katie Finneran, Celeste O’Connor, and Misha Osherovich, among others.

Where to stream Netflix

Unfortunately, Freaky is currently not available for streaming on Netflix. But don’t fret, because there are a few other options if you want to spend some money.

If you’re ready to watch the 2020 movie this minute, it’s currently available via Video on Demand and to rent on Amazon Prime Video for $19.99.

If you find yourself in the mood for a good old fashioned silver screen experience, you’re in luck. This one’s currently still playing in theaters.
