What’s new on Netflix on December 1?

December is finally here! Somehow, we made it to the last month of the year. Yay us! But to give us all a little help getting through this month, Netflix is adding a bunch of new movies and shows right at the start of December.

So, if you’re feeling the winter blues or already feeling down from the possibility of being alone on whatever winter holiday you celebrate, you can at least distract yourself with some Netflix new releases.

Whether you’re looking to binge-watch a franchise or two, watch a whole sci-fi series, escape into a few romance films, or watch a classic sci-film, Netflix has you covered.

That being said, not all of these movies and shows are brand new. Most will either be new to you, new to Netflix, or just something you want to rewatch because you loved it the first time.

One of the franchises coming to the streaming service this month is Jurassic Park. All three original movies are on Netflix starting on Monday, Dec. 1 making it easy to binge-watch. Who doesn’t want to escape into a terrifying island where dinosaurs are real and Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum’s lives are at stake?

The other franchise coming to Netflix is The Da Vinci Code or the Robert Langdon series if you want to get technical. The films are based on the books by Dan Brown.

Not all the films will be on Netflix, but the first two, The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons will both be added today. Tom Hanks stars as Robert Langdon and gets drawn into the world of secrets and scandals inside the Catholic Church.

More in the mood for 10 seasons of a sci-fi show? You’re in luck because all 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 are on Netflix on Dec 1. The series aired from 1997 to 2007 and starred Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, Michael Shanks, and Richard Dean Anderson. The show follows a secret military team known as SG-1 who are tasked with exploring other planets in the Stargate.

Looking to check out a few romance films? There are three coming to Netflix today. 50 First Dates, Effie Gray, and Runaway Bride are available for all you romance fans. And these films are different enough that most people will like at least one of them.

50 First Dates stars Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler as two characters who meet and fall in love. The problem comes when Sandler’s character realizes the woman he’s fallen for has almost no short-term memory, so every time she wakes up, he has to remind her who he is.

Effie Gray is a historical biopic/romance starring Dakota Fanning, Polly Dartford, Julie Walters, Greg Wise, and Tom Sturridge. It also stars Emma Thompson who also wrote the film. The movie tells the story of the love triangle between Effie Gray, the Victorian art critic, John Ruskin, and the painter, John Everett Millais. The film is based on a real scandal that happened during the Victorian period. As you can imagine, it shocked society when it was discovered.

Runaway Bride is one of Julia Roberts’ many romantic comedies. Besides Roberts, the movie also stars rom-com legend, Richard Gere, as well as Joan Cusack, Hector Elizondo, Rita Wilson, Paul Dooley, and Christopher Meloni.

Roberts plays a woman who has run away from the altar quite a few times. Gere’s character is in her small town to do a story on her. Little do they both know they’re about to fall in love.

One of the most well-known sci-fi films is also coming to Netflix today: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. The classic film follows a lonely kid who must find the courage to help a friendly alien return to his home.

The movie is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Drew Barrymore, C. Thomas Howell, Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, K.C. Martel, and Sean Frye. If you haven’t see E.T. yet (like me), now’s the perfect time.
