Hillbilly Elegy is just one of the must-watch movies on Netflix this weekend

While this is a good weekend to watch some excellent family Christmas movies, you may want something different. There’s an excellent mixture of must-watch movies on Netflix this weekend.

It is Thanksgiving weekend, though. If you do want to watch something with the whole family, there’s a bunch of great additions from over the years, including a few recent ones.

Whether you want drama or comedy, here are five must-watch movies on Netflix for the weekend.

Hillbilly Elegy

We start with an important movie about family, acceptance, and mental health. Hillbilly Elegy has an outstanding cast, but that’s not the only reason to watch.

A Yale Law student heads back to his hometown to attend to personal matters. While there, he thinks back on the past and how it’s turned him into the man that he now is. He also thinks about the future that he could have that he may or may not want.

Part of it involves his mother, who suffers from mental illness. He needs to separate what he wants from a mother and the woman that she is to help her.

The Christmas Chronicles 2

Yes, there are Christmas movies to watch this weekend. There’s only one on the list, though. It’s all about the sequel to the hit Christmas movie The Christmas Chronicles from 2018.

In the sequel, Kate and Jack end up in the North Pole. When there’s a threat against Christmas, they need to help Santa and Mrs. Clause protect the holiday.

Mixed in are a few life lessons about family, loss, grief, and courage. And the elves most definitely steal the show!

The Call

Are you ready for a South Korean thriller? #Alive‘s Park Shin-hye stars as a woman who moves into a home that seems normal. However, when she starts getting phone calls from someone who lived in the same home 20 years earlier, things take a turn for the worst.

When the woman from the past makes changes to the timeline, it seems to be for good reasons. What if something sinister happens because of those changes. Now there’s a serial killer on the loose and one woman will need to change her fate.

Notes for My Son

When battling a terminal illness, people have limited choices. Do they accept their fate and just get on with life or do they make the most out of their final years? One woman decides to write notes to her son, sharing her thoughts about life and death, love and loss, and so much more.

This Argentinian movie is filled with heart and sorrow. It’s all based on a true story, which adds a greater depth to it. It has to be one of the must-watch movies on Netflix for the weekend.

Mosul

If it’s action you’re looking for, Mosul is a must-watch this weekend. The movie takes place in Mosul, where ISIS continually attacks. The Nineveh SWAT team wages a guerrilla operation against ISIS to take the town back. At the same time, they need to protect the innocent civilians, seeing the horrors of what ISIS is doing to the people of towns like this.

This is based on a true story. It’s one of courage and support. It’s one of freedom and strength.
