Best Netflix shows of 2020: 1. The Queen’s Gambit

The Queen’s Gambit premiered on Netflix on Oct. 23, 2020, and it’s a huge hit on Netflix. More than 60 million Netflix subscribers watched the series in the first month since it’s release on Netflix. That’s a huge opening month, and according to Netflix, it’s the most-watched Netflix original limited series of all time.

And, it’s really good, too. The Queen’s Gambit stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon, a woman who has experienced a lot of trauma in her life, including the death of her parents when she was young. Shortly after, Beth is introduced to chess and discovers she is very good. The series follows Beth’s journey to become an international chess superstar.

Many consider The Queen’s Gambit to be the best Netflix limited series to date. It’s hard to argue with those numbers.

One of the reasons this show is so good is because of the cast. Taylor-Joy is amazing, but the rest of cast is quite good, too. Bill Camp, Moses Ingram, Isla Johnston, Christiane Seidel, Rebecca Root, Chloe Pirrie, Akemnji Ndifornyen, Marielle Heller, Harry Melling, Patrick Kennedy, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Marcin Dorociński also star in the series.

Scott Frank wrote and directed the Netflix original series. It doesn’t sound like season 2 of The Queen’s Gambit is happening.
