50 First Dates, a beloved Adam Sandler movie, is coming to Netflix in December
There’s nothing like a good romantic comedy with a twist to keep you occupied on a long winter’s night, and Adam Sandler fans can rejoice now that 50 First Dates is coming to Netflix in December.
Sandler and co-star Drew Barrymore delighted fans in the 2004 rom-com about a man named Henry (Sandler) who falls in love with an art teacher named Lucy (Barrymore) who suffers from a condition known as anterograde amnesia, which means that she forgets everything after a day.
When he realizes how much he loves her, he decides that he will do whatever it takes to win her over, even when that means that every day he has to “meet” her again and go through all of the motions. Her protective father and brother choose to relive the same day over and over again, pretending it’s her father’s birthday, to save her from the pain of remembering what happened, but Henry wants to break the cycle and help her remember so that they can be together. Of course, nothing goes as planned.
50 First Dates has always had a big following of fans who adore the cast, but the concept is one that makes it an instant classic thanks in large part to how poor Henry must find new ways to win over Lucy when he has to start over again every day while dealing with the implications of having her forget who he is.
Like Groundhog Day, and the horror franchise Happy Death Day, the idea of having to relive a day over and over again is a popular one. It allows characters to see how their lives could be so different with just a few changes along the way.
50 First Dates will be available on Netflix in the US beginning December 1, 2020.
