Is Black Lightning canceled?

Black Lightning is coming to an end at The CW. TV Line reports Black Lightning has been canceled and will end following season 4.

Black Lightning season 4 is currently in production now and is slated to premiere on The CW on Feb. 8, 2021.

This is obviously a huge bummer for fans of the series. It’s one of the best shows on The CW and has been since it premiered.

I thought that the TV series would definitely be renewed for season 5, especially because the plans for a Painkiller spinoff were revealed recently. It sounds like those talks for the spinoff are still moving forward, so it’s interesting that they would decide to cancel the show now.

Black Lightning season 4 will be added to Netflix in the summer of 2021, most likely.

Will Netflix save Black Lightning?

As so often happens, Netflix is always brought up as a potential destination for canceled shows, especially successful shows.

I’m assuming that Netflix will not save Black Lightning, because that’s what usually happens. With that said, Netflix knows a lot more about this show than most streaming networks that could be interested in saving Black Lightning.

The first three seasons of Black Lightning are available to stream on Netflix right now. As we have seen with many CW shows, so many fans wait until the new season is on Netflix before binge-watching. This happens with Riverdale and All American, among others.

I could see a scenario where Netflix saves Black Lightning. Look at how well it’s worked out with Lucifer, another DC comics-inspired show, on Netflix after FOX canceled the series.

If Black Lightning is pulling big numbers of viewers on Netflix, the streaming network would definitely take a look at savin the show. We just don’t know what those numbers look like, so it’s tough to say if it’s actually something Netflix should consider.

I hope so, honestly. There are so many good characters in Black Lightning and so much more story to tell. It’ll be interesting to see where the series ends and if that end is salvageable.

Stay tuned for more news about Black Lightning and the possibility of Netflix stepping in and saving the series like the network has done with Lucifer, Longmire, and other canceled Netflix shows.
