Is The Order canceled on Netflix?

The Order is not returning for season 3 on Netflix. According to creator Dennis Heaton, Netflix canceled The Order after two seasons on the streaming service. There will not be a season 3 of The Order at Netflix.

Heaton announced the news on Twitter on Friday, Nov. 13.

The Order season 2 premiered on Netflix in June 2020, but we hadn’t heard if the series had been renewed for season 3 or not. We start to worry about Netflix canceling shows when so much time passes after the premiere without any news.

I was hoping we’d get to see the third season. This show is so much fun and so good. It’s a bummer that this show is not going to be able to give fans that satisfying conclusion.

Heaton also shared what he was hoping to have happen in the new season that we’ll likely never get to see.

We don’t know why exactly The Order was canceled at Netflix. I’m guessing it’s probably some combination of ratings, cost of production, the COVID-19 pandemic, and possible salary increases for the cast following the second season.

That’s just speculation at this point, but that’s typically why Netflix shows get canceled. The pandemic has thrown a wrench into the gears, as well. Production costs are increasing because of testing and other changes to help keep the cast and crew safe.

We’ve already seen Netflix cancel shows with big casts that need to film lots of scenes together. I don’t think The Order would fall into that category, but it’s possible. We’ve already seen Netflix shows like GLOW, The Society, I Am Not Okay With This, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which is also filmed in Canada, canceled this year, pretty much, directly because of the pandemic.

We hate to be the bearers of bad news. I’m sure fans of The Order will try to revive the series, and we’ll keep you posted on the status of the fan campaign. Stay tuned!
