While its debut season was met with mixed reviews, Emily in Paris will have the chance to win audiences over in season 2 as Netflix has renewed the Lily Collins led-series.

Less than 24 hours after renewing its popular series The Umbrella Academy for a third season, Netflix has handed out yet another renewal this time to one of its newest original series.

Nearly one month to the day after its debut, Emily in Paris has been renewed for a second season at Netflix. The news makes Emily in Paris one of the lucky new series of 2020 to secure an early renewal in what is a clear sign of Netflix’s excitement about and investment in the show.

Netflix renewals: Emily in Paris renewed for second season

Taking to Twitter, Netflix announced the series’ renewal with help from a fun video featuring the show’s cast. Shot from the comfort of their homes, the video intertwines snippets of the show’s core cast members uttering the word “Duex” and having a bit of fun in doing so.

The teaser ends with star Lily Collins in-character as Emily receiving two messages: one from Mathieu and another from Gabriel in a nod to the show’s season 1 cliffhanger which left Emily juggling feelings for the two guys. Finally, Netflix throws up a title card which promises “Duex is always better than un” and confirms Emily in Paris will return for season 2.

When will Emily in Paris season 2 premiere on Netflix?

At this time, it’s unclear when exactly Emily in Paris season 2 will arrive on Netflix as an official release schedule has not yet been confirmed by Netflix.

Under normal circumstances, Netflix is typically able to turn out new seasons of its series within roughly a year after the previous season’s release — give or take. However, studios are still facing filming restrictions due to the ongoing pandemic which could delay the start of production on season 2.

Should Netflix be able to begin filming sometime in early 2021, there’s a chance season 2 could arrive in the final quarter of 2021. However, it’s just as likely we could be looking at an extended break between seasons which could push season 2 off to early 2022. Ultimately, a lot will depend on how quickly Netflix is able to begin filming so be sure to check back for updates!
