The Umbrella Academy season 3 is happening at Netflix

The Umbrella Academy is coming back for season 3 at Netflix.

According to a report from Deadline, Netflix recently renewed The Umbrella Academy for season 3, and production is slated to begin in early 2021 in Canada.

Netflix shared the news on social media on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

According to the report, the full cast is returning for The Umbrella Academy season 3. Obviously, that’s the cherry on top of this good news.

We’d been hoping to see The Umbrella Academy season 3 renewal sometime in September given the second season premiered at the end of July 2020 and was one of the most-watched shows of the summer. I started to get a little worried when September and October passed without a renewal. We don’t know why it took so long, but we’re just happy that it’s finally happening.

When will The Umbrella Academy season 3 be on Netflix?

Now that everyone knows The Umbrella Academy season 3 is happening, the next question we always get asked is about The Umbrella Academy season 3 release date.

Unfortunately, the report did not mention when to expect the new season to arrive on Netflix. Based on the production timelines for the first two seasons, we have a pretty good idea when we can expect to see season 3.

Most likely, we will not see The Umbrella Academy season 3 on Netflix in 2021. If production starts in February and lasts for four or five months, like the first two seasons did, then it will wrap in June or July 2021. That’s usually too late in the year to go into post-production and get the full season turned around by the end of the year.

At the very earliest, we could see The Umbrella Academy season 3 on Netflix in December 2021, and that’s assuming everything goes right and Netflix wants to release it then.

If not, we’ll likely see The Umbrella Academy season 3 in February 2022. That’s our best guess at this point.

We always hate to spoil the good news of a renewal with the bad news that it’s probably going to be a while until we see the new season. That’s just the nature of the business, though. Netflix releases full seasons at one time so fans can binge-watch. Unfortunately, the flipside of that is that we have to wait much longer than shows with traditional releases, usually, because they can film as they go.

So, it’s not exactly a bad thing. Eventually, we will get the opportunity to binge-watch The Umbrella Academy season 3, but we might have a wait a little longer to do that.
