Will Netflix save The Outsider?

HBO canceled The Outsider even after its successful first season. Now, MRC, the studio behind the series, is shopping it out to other networks and streamers, according to a report from Deadline.

Will Netflix be the streamer that saves the TV series? We can only hope!

The Outsider is a series based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Stephen King. The series first season consisted of 10 episodes and was well received. It has received a 91% critical rating on Rotton Tomatoes.

The drama follows seasoned police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) in an investigation of the horrific murder of a local boy. With witnesses and evidence pointing to a local teacher, Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman), it seems to be an open and shut case until things come to light that contradicts the initial evidence.

Anderson then brings in an unorthodox private investigator, Holly Gibney (Cynthia Erivo), to help solve this crime in light of the new mysterious circumstances.

This series also stars Bill Camp, Jeremy Bobb, Julianne Nicholson, Mare Winningham, Paddy Considine, Yul Vazquez and Marc Menchaca.

Deadline reports viewership growing from 1.2 million for the first episode to 2.2 million for the finale, making it hard to understand why HBO wouldn’t renew it for a second season.

The second season is a continuation beyond King’s novel, and the script is complete for that season. The second season would focus on Holly Gibney and Price wrote the expanded storyline with King’s blessing.

This series seems like a perfect fit for Netflix. With the success of shows like Ozark, Longmire, Broadchurch and many others, this would be an excellent addition to the streaming network’s list of crime dramas available.

Netflix has saved shows that were canceled at other networks, including Lucifer, Longmire, and others. The Outsider has potential to be a hit on Netflix.

We’ll let you know if The Outsider moves to Netflix for season 2.
