A new Netflix movie is coming to a TV near you, and it will feature two of our favorite television leading ladies. We promise you, you’ll want to check out Strangers.
As reported by Deadline today, Riverdale‘s Camila Mendes and Stranger Things star Maya Hawke have signed on for director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s upcoming film. Strangers will follow Robinson’s directorial debut Someone Great (2019), which also premiered on Netflix.
So far, the premise for the upcoming movie is described as “a subverted Hitchock-ian dark comedy featuring the scariest protagonists of all: teenage girls.” Sign me up!
Strangers was co-written by Robinson and Celeste Ballard (Wrecked, Sweet/Vicious). Other cast members have not yet been announced.
Considering both Stranger Things and Riverdale are two of the most popular shows available to stream on Netflix, it goes without saying fans are excited to see these two talented actresses team up. Hawke is known to play Robin Buckley in Stranger Things, joining the cast for season 3, while Mendes has played Veronica Lodge on Riverdale since season 1.
Fans of Mendes can also catch her on Netflix in the movies Dangerous Lies, The Perfect Date, and The New Romantic. Season 5 of Riverdale is currently in production in Vancouver, Canada, after filming delays due to COVID-19 safety concerns.
As for Hawke, her only current title on Netflix is Stranger Things. Her latest release, the movie Mainstream, premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year. Next up, she’ll be starring in a film called Revolver with her dad, four-time Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke.
Strangers does not yet have a release date, but we’ll keep you updated. We can’t wait to see what these awesome stars bring to the table.
