Connecticut: Gaten Matarazzo

Connecticut gets its link to the show from one of its most well-known actors. Gaten Matarazzo aka Dustin Henderson is originally from The Constitution State. He was born in Connecticut in 2002 (making all of us feel very old) but grew up in New Jersey for most of his life.

Besides Stranger Things, Matarazzo started off his acting career on Broadway as Gavroche in Les Miserables. He then starred in an episode of The Blacklist, was in a Katy Perry music video, a Green Day video, and voiced a character in The Angry Birds Movie 2. But it wasn’t until he got the role of Dustin in 2016 that he really blew up and became more well-known.

Matarazzo’s character quickly became a fan favorite as the protector and unifier of the group. He stops quite a few of the conflicts that happen between the friends and he’s one of the characters who, more often than not, come up with good ideas that will get them out of trouble.

One of the more memorable scenes where this happens is when he calls the kids’ science teacher, Scott Clarke, to get advice about a sensory deprivation tank and says the now-classic line, “Why are you keeping this curiosity door locked?” when Mr. Clarke tries to deflect and not give him the information he’s looking for.
