North Carolina: The Duffer Brothers
North Carolina possibly has one of the greatest connections with the Netflix show as it’s the place the creators of the series, The Duffer Brothers, are from. Matt and Ross Duffer were born in Durham, North Carolina in 1984 as twins. Whether they are fraternal or identical is unknown even to them. They told Vulture they were unsure.
They started making their own movies very young and then went onto study film in California at Chapman University.
Their first works as writers and directors were on short films. It wasn’t until their first feature, Hidden, starring Alexander Skarsgard, Andrea Riseborough, and Emily Alyn Lind, that they really got their feet under them as creators and directors.
They also wrote and co-executive produced on Fox’s Wayward Pines right before getting Stranger Things greenlit and becoming the famous creators we know them as now.
While Wayward Pines is definitely different than Stranger Things, it’s in the same genre and that must have given them some of the experience they needed to work on the show that made them famous.
And it seems Stranger Things will be going on well beyond season 4 as the brothers have said they have more of the story to tell. They also signed a nine-figure deal with Netflix for more films and TV shows over multiple years.
