Louisiana: Joe Chrest

Louisiana has a couple of connections with the Netflix series. One is that Joe Chrest, the actor who plays Mike and Nancy’s dad, Ted Wheeler, just so happens to be a professor at LSU. He does look like a college professor even if he doesn’t wear the huge 80s glasses from the show in class.

Ted is probably one of the most boring characters on the show, but on a show with so many personalities, someone has to be the boring one.

There’s also another side character who has a connection to Louisiana and that’s Troy Walsh from season 1. The actor who played him, Peyton Wich, is from New Orleans, Louisiana. His character, Troy, was only seen in season 1 and only for a short period of time.

He’s one of the antagonists in season 1 as the school bully of Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Will. He makes fun of them when he finds the boys and Eleven in the memorial assembly for Will. Mike pushes him but when Troy goes to fight back, he’s paralyzed and pees his pants which was all caused by Eleven.

Mike and Dustin don’t meet Troy again until they are in the forest and Troy is looking for revenge. He holds Dustin at knifepoint and tells Mike to jump off the cliff and into the quarry or he’ll hurt Dustin. Mike does, but when they all look over the edge to see what happened, they see Mike floating in the air. Another save by Eleven! Eleven shows up and breaks Troy’s arm without touching him.

We see him again when his mom tries to complain to the police, but after that wenever see him again on the show.
