Can you get your favorite Netflix shows on DVD and Blu-ray?

You don’t always want to keep your Netflix subscription, but you still want to watch your favorite Netflix shows. Is that possible with DVD? Do Netflix shows come to DVD and Blu-ray?

This isn’t a straight-forward answer.

Some Netflix shows will head to DVD. Others don’t.

Why is this? It’s all about the production studios. Warner Bros., for example, sees a return on investment when it comes to DVD and Blu-ray sales, so you’ll find the Netflix shows that are produced by Warner Bros. will head to DVD. This includes the likes of Fuller HouseThe Kominsky Method, and other similar titles.

Some of the British production studios also like to see their shows head to DVD and Blu-ray. The Crown and The Last Kingdom are two that immediately come to mind.

The releases usually happen a year after release on Netflix, mostly in time for the new season to drop. In many cases, you only get the episodes. There are no bloopers or deleted scenes like you get with the majority of other TV shows.

However, not all will get the DVD treatment. If something is solely owned by Netflix instead of being licensed, it’s not going to head to physical disc.

Why don’t all Netflix shows go to DVD?

It is all about exclusivity. Netflix wants to keep as much as possible exclusive to the service. This encourages more people to sign up for the streaming service to watch their favorite shows.

Why should people bother to sign up for Netflix to continue watching The Last Kingdom when the seasons come to DVD, for example? There’s no need to keep paying the monthly subscription when it costs less for the DVD in the long-run.

With more streaming services now available, this is more important than ever. Netflix won’t want to lose potential subscribers.
