The Family

The Family is a Netflix documentary series that is executive produced by Academy award-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney and follows a very influential conservative Christian group known as The Family or the Fellowship. The 5 episode affair appropriately titled the Family chronicles the history of this organization as well its ties to American politics. It also looks very closely at Douglas Cole, the director of the religious outfit who was referred to as the “stealth Billy Graham” and in 2005 was named one of the 25 most influential evangelical in the United States by Time magazine. Are Cole and the other individuals involved acting as the word of god, or are they trying to find a way around the separation of church and state to serve their own agenda?

The Netflix docuseries is also executive produced by Jeff Sharlet, who is somewhat of an expert on this matter, having written two books on the subject titled The Family: The Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power and C Street: The Fundamentalist Threat to American Democracy. With bold reenactments, featuring the great James Cromwell, and intriguing interviews, this entire ordeal is just as fascinating s it is chilling. The Family does a great job of lifting the veil on the whole affair and will captivate subscribers from the very beginning.
