Based on the true story of the anti-Vietnam War protestors known as the Chicago Seven, The Trial of the Chicago 7 takes place during the infamous 1969 trial of the aforementioned seven defendants who were charged with conspiracy and other crimes related to counterculture protests that erupted in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention in 1968. Because of its omnipresence in the headlines and ripple effects, the trial captivated the nation and started conversations about chaos created with the intention to take shots at the U.S. government.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 had been intended to hit theaters this fall by Paramount Pictures in time for an awards season bid, but due to the shutdowns caused by the pandemic, Netflix scooped up the distribution rights to the film. Still, the film was able to have a limited theatrical release before hitting Netflix in October and scoring mostly positive reviews from critics. Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 could find the streamer yet again making an awards season splash. Don’t miss the latest hit original film tearing up the Top 10 ranking and getting people talking.
