Depending on the viewer, Wine Country might have been the highly anticipated Netflix original film you’d been waiting for, rather the obvious Oscar-bait movies that had everyone talking. There’s just something magical about a cast of friends and well-loved comedian coming together to simply have fun together onscreen. Wine Country, the directorial debut of national treasure Amy Poehler, centers on a group of friends taking a trip to Napa Valley to celebrate the 50th birthday of Rebecca (Rachel Dratch). Despite Abby’s (Amy Poehler) planning, the trip does not go as planned.

According to the critical consensus, Wine Country didn’t meet or exceed the expectations of such an incredible cast of comedy talents. The film’s middling Rotten Tomatoes score 65% expresses as much. But even if Wine Country doesn’t pack as big a punch as you’d like, it’s still an unparalleled joy to watch this cast join forces and truly let loose. Wine Country is best enjoyed with a glass, okay bottle, of your favorite wine and maybe a group of your best friends — social distancing permitting. This cast of favorites doesn’t get together on camera often, but when they do, you better believe it’s a must-watch.
