Maybe no one expected an Adam Sandler comedy on Netflix to become a huge hit, but never underestimate the power of Jennifer Aniston. After starring together in 2011’s rom-com Just Go with It, Sandler and Aniston reteamed for 2019’s Murder Mystery. The film centers on complacent married couple Nick and Audrey Spitz (Sandler and Aniston), who never took the trip to Europe that wanted to take after their wedding 15 years ago. But when they finally embark on their European vacation, they’re in for the adventure of a lifetime as they get wrapped up in a murder.

Murder Mystery holds a middling 43% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the film was a much bigger hit than its critical reception would suggest. Netflix announced the film had been watched by nearly 40 million households in its first three days of release, making it both the platform’s and Sandler’s best showing on the streaming service. The film took home a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Comedic Movie, and a sequel has been put into development for another murder mystery to befall Nick and Audrey Spitz. For an easy laugh from a dynamic duo, Murder Mystery isn’t a mystery.
