Based on Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel of the same name, Rebecca stars Lily James as Mrs. de Winter, a young woman who has newly married wealthy widower Maxim de Winter (Armie Hammer). After their whirlwind affair in Monte Carlo, the newlyweds return to de Winter’s family estate on the English coast called Manderley, where Mrs. de Winter finds herself dealing with the mysterious memory of her husband’s late first wife Rebecca. Attempting to settle into her new life, the young wife struggles with Rebecca’s legacy and the ominous housekeeper Mrs. Danvers (Kristina Scott Thomas).

Prior to its worldwide streaming debut on Netflix, Rebecca received a limited theatrical release in the United Kingdom. Early reviews indicate a mixed reception for the classic novel adaptation, which was originally given the movie treatment by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940. The film currently holds a 52% on Rotten Tomatoes, but that number will mean little when compared to the public reaction. Considering its excellent cast and compelling story, Rebecca has all of the potential to become a viral, must-watch hit. Don’t miss this new release Netflix original romantic thriller!
