Is Lucifer a Netflix original?

And, now, we’ve reached the best show Netflix has saved: Lucifer.

Lucifer is based on the character created by Neil Gaiman. The series premiered on FOX in 2016 and ran for three seasons on the network. FOX canceled the series after the third season, and fans were quick to start a massive fan campaign to save the show.

Netflix stepped in and revived Lucifer, and the rest is pretty much history. Since then, the series is one of the most-watched shows on Netflix. So, no, Lucifer was not a Netflix original when it started, but it is now!

Lucifer season 4 was added to Netflix in May 2019. Fans loved the season, but it was only 10 episodes, compared to the 20-plus episode seasons on FOX. Netflix renewed Lucifer for season 5 and announced it would be the final season of the series. Then, weird things started to happen.

The fifth season was supposed to be 10 episodes, like season 4, but then Netflix ordered another six episodes. Then, they announced the season would be split into two parts with eight episodes each.

Then, Netflix renewed Lucifer for season 6, which is now going to be the final season of the series.

Wow. That’s a lot!

The first half of Lucifer season 5 premiered in August 2020. The second half of the season was delayed because of the pandemic. It has since wrapped and production on season 6 has started.

The second half of Lucifer season 5 is coming to Netflix next year. It’s unclear when we’ll get to see season 6 on Netflix.

We’ll let you know more about Lucifer season 6 when we find out!
