Is Mindhunter canceled at Netflix?
Mindhunter has been canceled at Netflix. Add the series to the list of canceled Netflix shows.
Mindhunter premiered on Netflix in 2017. The second season of the Netflix show arrived on Netflix in August 2019. Since then, we hadn’t heard much about the third season of the series, which is usually a bad sign.
In this instance, it wasn’t overly concerning, though, because Fincher had multiple projects in the works at Netflix. Fincher directed Mank, which is scheduled to premiere on Netflix in December. He was also working on Love, Death and Robots season 2.
Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Hannah Gross, Anna Torv and the rest of the cast were let out of their contracts, which is another bad sign, but the cast made it seem like they would return for season 3 when Fincher was ready to make the series.
Now, it sounds like that’s no longer the plan and Mindhunter is effectively canceled at Netflix.
Fincher said that the show was too expensive to justify the ratings it got during the second season.
Will Mindhunter be renewed for season 3?
Although Mindhunter is effectively canceled for now, I’m not willing to close the door on this series completely. Netflix is playing the long game here, and there’s a chance that these actors and Fincher could reunite in the future and make Mindhunter season 3.
The Vulture report even ends with “Maybe in five years,” so it appears there’s still a chance Mindhunter season 3 could happen.
At this point, it seems like a longshot. Once Netflix shows end, they usually remain dead.
Obviously, this is a real bummer for Mindhunter fans. There’s still so much story to be told, and I know that fans of the series wanted to see that.
Looking at the larger landscape at Netflix, it makes sense that an expensive show like Mindhunter would not return for season 3, especially they are canceling shows with big audiences.
Stay tuned for more news about Mindhunter season 3.
