Sci-fi movies on Netflix: Anon (2018)

Anon is a 2018 British-American science fiction thriller film written and directed by Andrew Niccol, who is best known for writing The Truman Show and directing Gattaca, In Time, Lord of War, The Host, and Good Kill, so his resume speaks for itself when telling extraordinary stories on a cinematic scale. The Netflix original film stars Amanda Seyfried and Clive Owen and is set in a futuristic world where privacy no longer exists. Anon’s chillingly relevant narrative follows a troubled detective played by Owen, who comes in contact with a young woman portrayed by Seyfried, who has the ability to evade the government’s transparency system and potentially threaten the system’s security.

Niccol’s offers subscribers a haunting look at where technology intends to take society and showcases a brilliant interpretation of tech escalation paranoia that Black Mirror fans would be right at home with. The visual effects are very well done, and the performances from the features leads are supremely crafted and works well with a supporting cast consisting of Colm Feore, Mark O’Brien, Sonya Walger, Joe Pingue, and Iddo Goldberg. All in all, Anon is a stellar Netflix film that will have people wondering what will happen if they stand idly by and scroll their life away. Whether it’s a wake-up call of just a deeply interesting choice for movie night, Anon is only a click away.
