The second season of the hit crime drama Narcos: Mexico premiered on Netflix in February of this year, and fans are already looking forward to news about season 3.
Starring Diego Luna and Michael Peña, the show is a companion series to the hit Netflix series Narcos. Narcos followed the rise of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, while Narcos: Mexico focuses on drug trafficking in Mexico and the ascent of the Guadalajara Cartel.
If you’re wondering whether or not Narcos: Mexico will be getting another season, then you’ve come to the right place. Here’s what we know so far about a potential Narcos: Mexico season 3.
Is Narcos: Mexico season 3 happening?
As reported by DigitalSpy, Narcos: Mexico has not yet been renewed for a third season. As of right now, there is no way of knowing if or when it will be released. And since the series has not been officially renewed, there’s no telling which actors will return to reprise their roles.
However, series producer Eric Newman told The Hollywood Reporter that Diego Luna, who plays drug trafficker Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo, will not be returning if the show continues. Fans will recall that season 2 ended with Gallardo in prison for killing Kiki.
Fear not, though! There’s still hope for another season. Here is what Newman told The Hollywood Reporter about the possibility of season 3:
As I always say, we’ll go on as long as they let us and as long as the drug war rages — which, as you know, there is no end in sight. But I would be lying if I said I hadn’t put quite a bit of thought into where we would go. I’ve always had a pretty fair idea at where we end up. That’s about all I can say about season three. But it’s definitely something that we’re actively discussing internally.
Even though there isn’t any formal news about the series getting a third season, it seems like Newman is confident that the story could continue for a while! We will keep you updated about the show’s renewal status.
