Netflix adds 20 new movies and show this week

Somehow, we’re already over halfway through October! While that means Halloween is closer than ever, it also means a bunch of new movies and shows coming to Netflix. Whether you’re looking for new episodes of a true-crime show, a movie based on a best-selling book, or a drama series about a chess champion, Netflix has something for everyone.

In the mood for some mysteries? Unsolved Mysteries is back with a second volume on Monday, Oct. 19. Six new mysteries are coming to the streaming service and they range from murders that have been unsolved for years to spooky occurrences that can’t be explained.

This is the perfect show to watch during the spooky season and it also gets these stories out to more people so maybe they have a better chance of being solved.

Take a look at the trailer for volume 2 here:

More in the mood for a psychological thriller? Rebecca, starring Lily James, Armie Hammer, Keeley Hawes, Kristen Scott Thomas, and Sam Riley, hits Netflix on Wednesday, Oct. 21. The movie is based on the classic novel by Daphne Du Maurier and looks both captivating and very frightening. With this cast, it’s difficult to see how this movie won’t be amazing!

Or maybe you’re looking for a different sort of horror/thriller? If so, you might want to check out season 1 of The Queen’s Gambit on Friday, Oct. 23. The mini-series stars Anna Taylor-Joy, Chloe Pirrie, Harry Melling, Moses Ingram, Bill Camp, and Thomas Brodie-Sangster and follows Beth (played Anna Taylor-Joy), an orphan who discovers she is extraordinary at chess.

By sixteen, she is at U.S. Open Championship, but as she rises higher and higher in the ranks, the isolation becomes terrifying. What will she do to escape? This is based on the book by Walter Tevis
