Who is the narrator in The Haunting of Bly Manor?
The long-awaited Haunting of Bly Manor has been released on Netflix, and there was a surprise for fans on the day of the release. The show announced that Carla Gugino is a surprise addition to the cast.
Spoilers ahead for The Haunting of Bly Manor.
You may remember that Gugino also starred in The Haunting of Hill House as Olivia Crain. She joins fellow Hill House actors Henry Thomas, Kate Siegel, Victoria Pedretti and Oliver Jackson-Cohan in the second installment of The Haunting anthology.
The information that Gugino was involved in this part of the anthology was released on social media before fans were able to watch. This spoiled the surprise for some, but the fact that she was starring didn’t spoil her role in the series.
In the series, Gugino is the narrator, who tells the story to a group of people staying at a hotel for a wedding.
The opening scene shows a group of people at a wedding. We aren’t sure exactly who these people are, but since the series occurs in 1987 and the wedding is behind held in 2007, it is fairly safe to assume these folks are involved in the story we are about to hear. Eventually, it will all become clear but not until the final episode.
As it turns out, Gugino is Jamie, who is played by Amelia Eve for the part of the story that takes place in 1987.
Gugino does a great job as the narrator for this series. Her work at the ending is impactful. She lays out the ending of the story and ties up the loose ends of the wedding guests and their identities. The ending is very emotional and is a great way to end this chapter.
Director Mike Flanagan has described Bly Manor as a gothic love story and although the bulk of the series is definitely in the horror genre and the ending does give light to the fact that this tale is truly a love story.
