The Haunting of Bly Manor finally premiered on Netflix last week and, as expected, there are ghosts abound. The new season features several returning actors from The Haunting of Hill House, including Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, Victoria Pedretti, Henry Thomas, and Carla Gugino, along with some newcomers. iZombie actor Rahul Kohli plays Owen Sharma, a talented chef who works at Bly Manor as the cook.

Owen’s culinary career was put on hold when his mother became ill with dementia, forcing him to return home to care for her. He is also the main source of comic relief this season, with his terrible food puns providing some lighthearted moments in every episode.

From this point forward, this article will feature spoilers from The Haunting of Bly Manor. If you haven’t finished the season, then don’t read ahead!

What happens to Owen in The Haunting of Bly Manor?

In episode 5, titled “The Altar of the Dead,” viewers learn that Owen’s love interest, Bly Manor’s housekeeper Hannah Grose (T’Nia Miller), is actually a ghost. Hannah was killed by Peter Quint (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), who was possessing 10-year-old Miles, moments before we meet her for the first time on screen.

Hannah is unaware that she’s a ghost for the first few episodes, allowing her to interact freely with the living at Bly Manor. It’s a heartbreaking moment when Hannah realizes that she’ll never be able to go to Paris with Owen. In fact, since Hannah’s spirit is tied to the grounds, she cannot leave the estate.

If you’re wondering whether or not Owen is dead, too, then you’ve come to the right place.

Is Owen a ghost in The Haunting of Bly Manor?

Thankfully, Owen manages to finish the season with his life. Although he suffers several hardships, like the death of his mother and the discovery of Hannah’s body, he gets a happy ending.

After the horrors he faced at Bly Manor, the fan-favorite character fulfills his dream of opening his own restaurant in Paris, which he names “A Batter Place.” Viewers know that he’s not dead because, according to Bly Manor’s ghost logic, spirits who die on the property cannot leave.

An older Owen is also present at Flora’s (Christie Burke) wedding in the finale.
