This 2011 action-thriller recently landed the #8 spot on Netflix’s Top 10 titles. But upon its initial release, this now popular movie definitely didn’t reach its peak binge-ability. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 28% critic rating and the audience score was 68%.

Better late than never, the film’s views are apparently taking an upturn in 2020. No matter the reason for this resurgence of interest, Colombiana is striking a definite nerve with fans right now, but in a totally good way.

Colombiana synopsis

Set in the early ’90s, Cataleya (played by Zoe Saldana) is forever changed when she witnesses the murder of her parents when she’s only 10-years-old. From that day forward, she vows revenge on the cold blooded killers who destroyed her family, never forgetting where she came from and most notably, never forgiving the drug lord who killed her family.

Before going on the hunt, she trains to become the powerhouse female assassin and unlikely heroine gracing our watchlist.

Never forgetting, forgiving, or messing around with her goals, Cataleya firmly states, “I’m doing this my way.” And she absolutely does just that.

Starring Zoe Saldana, the stellar cast also includes Jordi Mollà Lennie James, Amandla Stenberg, Michael Vartan, Cliff Curtis, and Beto Benites, to name a few. Saldana also won a Teen Choice Award for her role in Colombiana, taking home the honor of “Choice Movie Actress.”
