With the growing popularity of Emily in Paris on Netflix, Darren Star has done it again. Undoubtedly, the Sex and the City creator’s latest comedy-drama is aimed at a younger audience this go-around in the city. And in season 1, there’s definitely something for (almost) everyone.

Already, this Netflix newcomer is a major hit with audiences and critics alike. And if it’s not already added, you should consider putting this one to your binge list. Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 73%, and viewers are adoring all the gorgeous outfits Lily Collins’ character wears.

Popularity aside, is Emily in Paris okay for kids to watch? Or perhaps, is this flick a bit too mature for some of the younger age groups? Let’s take a quick look and decide for ourselves.

Emily in Paris synopsis

It’s the classic American girl in Paris story with a boatload of modern twists. Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, is just a girl with big dreams from the midwest. She’s also the “American perspective” at a marketing firm in Paris, France. And her life does indeed look dreamy.

Far from home, the city of love does indeed bring romance into Emily’s life. However, this fresh faced dreamer also finds herself dealing with a variety of other conflicts (including adventures in culture clash), both on and off the clock.

What is Emily in Paris rated?

Rated TV-MA, Emily in Paris is definitely not fun for the whole family. For starters, there’s sex, adult language, and nudity (but not explicit nudity) throughout. There are ongoing one-night relationships happening and the show is full of adult conversations, from timely political issues to, of course, sex.

All in all, the narrative is woven together with mostly mature content, no matter how pretty the packaging might be.

In a rating review by Common Sense Media, they describe Emily in Paris as “sexy, soapy serial” with “mature humor” and “lots of smoking.” The site also say it’s appropriate for audiences ages 15 and up. And technically, TV-MA means for viewers 17 and up.
