Stranger Things season 4 appears to be set during basketball season
It looks like we’ll be seeing the Hawkins High Tigers playing some hoops in Stranger Things season 4. The new season appears to take place during basketball season.
On the same day that Netflix confirmed Stranger Things season 4 has officially restarted production, the official Twitter account of the Stranger Things writers tweeted a poster for a “Pep Rally” for the Hawkins High Tigers.
On the poster, there’s a little drawing of a basketball, which obviously indicates that the pep rally is for the basketball season.
This wouldn’t be the first time we saw the Hawkins High team playing basketball. In season 2, Billy destroyed Steve regularly in preseason scrimmages.

This poster, likely, reveals that Stranger Things season 4 is going to take place during basketball season in Hawkins. So, now, we have a much more clear picture of when Stranger Things season 4 is going to take place.
Typically, high school basketball season runs from November-March. There might be a little variance by state, but that’s the normal window. So, that means we’re likely going to see the events of Stranger Things season 4 take place between the months of November 1985 and March 1986.
That’s pretty much when we expected the new season to take place. I think there’s a good chance the season will be set after Thanksgiving and Christmas to allow for enough time to pass. It’ll give Will and Eleven and the Byers family a chance to settle in a little bit before things get crazy again.
Stranger Things season 3 was set in the summer, obviously, but it ended in October. The show did a three-month time jump to the day that the Byers and Eleven left town.
So, at the earliest, we’ll catch up with these characters about a month after the Byers and Eleven left Hawkins.
I don’t think that will happen. I think we’ll probably catch up with the characters around Valentine’s Day. That makes sense with the holiday themes for the second and third seasons. David Harbour revealed the season was scheduled to an early 2021 release, so it’s entirely possible that the season could have taken place around Valentine’s Day.
We’ll let you know about the Stranger Things season 4 setting and when the season will take place when we find out more information. Stay tuned!
