Is Gerald’s Game actually scary?

Stephen King is notoriously known as a master of horror when it comes to writing, and the majority of his film adaptations resonate well with horror fans as well as field viewers nightmares for as long as anyone can remember. The man responsible for classic horror films based on his popular works like The Shining, It, Doctor Sleep, just to name a few, have been some of the best the genre has ever seen.

The Netflix original film Gerald’s Game is undoubtedly one of the best the streaming network has ever made. This ambitiously eerie endeavor showed the world that director Mike Flanagan had a knack for translating the word of the iconic writer into a spine-tingling feature.

Based on the 1992 novel of the same name, the film features Bruce Greenwood and stars Carla Cucgino in what many have rightfully described as one of the greatest performances she has ever given in a movie.

The story follows a couple looking to spice up their marriage with some naughty handcuff play in the bedroom. But things take a turn for the worse when Gerald’s Game goes wrong, and he drops dead from popping his assistance pills. Now his wife Jessie is trapped with no one for miles with only her inner demons to haunt her as she slowly wastes away. She begins to hallucinate all kinds of terrible things, and watching her try to escape her restraint is easily one of the most shocking things you’ll see in a Stephen King based horror flick, which is really saying something given what’s come before subscribers were able to play Geralds Game.
