Is Cult of Chucky actually scary?

The Child’s Play series of films creed by horror icon Don Mancini is the franchise that just won’t die and keeps on giving standing the test of time as one of the slasher genre’s hall of fame caliber entries since its inception in 1988.

Nearly three decades later, the property is still thriving with fans and impressively reinventing itself with each new iteration. The 2017 motion picture Cult of Chucky is currently available for Netflix subscribers, and the seventh chapter is full of classic Chucky mayhem with some bold twists that brilliantly connects with previous installments making this hair-raising doll caper a must-see for both fans of slasher titles and the haunting Child’s Play saga.

Cult of Chucky takes place four years after the 2013 film Curse of Chucky and follows Nica Pierce, who now resides in a wheelchair in a mental institution as a result of being framed for the murder’s Chucky committed in the last outing. Her therapist convinces her Chucky wasn’t real and sends her to group therapy in a different institution. There they are given Good Guys dolls as a technique to help them cope with the trauma they are all experiencing. But then things take a dark and murderous turn as Chucky has become a much more menacing threat that no one, mot even the most hardcore Child’s Play fanatic, could have seen coming. If you thought this creepy little guy was scary in the ’80s, wait till you see what he has in store for fans in Cult of Chucky.
