Netflix movies and shows: Cursed

Cursed was another show that came to Netflix this summer that you might have missed. While it was advertised, it doesn’t seem like a lot of people talked about it when it first aired. The show is a twist on the Arthurian legend and told through the eyes of Nimue who, in the show, is a young woman who has mysterious powers and is destined to become the legendary Lady of the Lake.

But, she’s also destined to have some role in finding and using Excalibur, the famous sword from the legend. And speaking of the legend, on her journey, she meets up with Arthur who is not everything he seems to be and they go on a quest together to find Merlin.

Why must she get the sword to Merlin? Nimue’s mother specifically told her to bring the sword to Merlin. It was her dying wish.

As with any story like this, the road to the end is not smooth. There are the Red Paladins who are also looking for the sword and willing to do anything, including brutally murdering anyone and everyone, to get what they want. They do it in the name of religion, but in reality, it’s greed and power that leads them to do what they want.

This has been compared to Game of Thrones, but I wouldn’t go that far. While it does have it’s brutal scenes, Arthurian times are different than what happened during Game of Thrones. And I wouldn’t put Nimue on the same level as Arya or Sansa or Daenerys.

If you love King Arthur and all the magic and stories that come with that, you will love this. Merlin’s character is worth the price of admission. He is a fun drunk. What’s better than that?
