Netflix movies and shows: Project Power

Project Power came to Netflix on Aug. 14 and stars Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Dominique Fishback. The film is set in a future New Orleans where there’s a drug that grants the user superpowers but for only five minutes. Each person has a distinct superpower that they don’t know until they take the pill.

The story starts with Robin, a dealer of the drug, almost getting robbed by supposed customers, but a New Orleans police officer and one of Robin’s regular customers, Frank Shaver, saves her.

We then see Art, played by Jamie Foxx, who is looking for the distributor of the drug. He is involved in a fight with a user who then overdoses and explodes. The police show up, along with Frank, and wrongly suspect Art of being the dealer.

As Robin soon finds out when Art abducts her, he’s no dealer.  He hates the drug. He’s looking for the distributors because he thinks they have his daughter and he’s trying to get her back.

His daughter, Tracy, was born after he was experimented on to create the superhero drug, and because she exhibited powers without any pill, they wanted to test on her. When she said no, they kidnapped her.

Robin and Art team up to try and find his daughter. Frank is on their tail ready to arrest Art, but eventually, he realizes the truth. He also finds out his captain is taking orders from the drug company and is corrupt. He then joins Art and Robin to look for Tracy. They end up on the ship where they think she is being held.

This starts the ultimate infiltration and fight scene between the three friends and the drug distributors that ends with Art finally showing exactly what his superpower is. It’s a scene you won’t forget.

If you’re looking for a good action movie and you missed Project Power this summer, you definitely want to check it out now.
