Netflix movies and shows: All Together Now
If you’re looking for a heartbreaking and heartwarming movie, All Together Now is a must-watch. It came out Aug. 28 and stars Auli’i Cravalho, Rhenzy Feliz, Justina Machado, Judy Reyes, Fred Armisen, C.S. Lee, and Carol Burnett.
The film focuses on Amber Appleton (played by Cravalho), a high school student who lives with her mother, Becky, inside the school bus her mom drives. They are currently homeless and doing everything they can to try and get out from under poverty.
Becky just left her abusive boyfriend and has two jobs: one as an ESL teacher and another in an old age home. She also happens to run an annual variety show for Amber’s school.
Amber, on the other hand, is invited to audition for the drama program at Carnegie Mellon University and Becky gives Amber the money they’ve been saving for an apartment for a plane ticket to go to the audition.
But while things are looking up, they go down the drain pretty quickly. Beck is fired for living in the bus and goes back to her abusive ex. Amber refuses to go back and ends up sleeping on a park bench. Luckily, Amber’s friend, Ty, learns of her situation and takes her in and helps her prepare for the audition.
Things do not look up after that, though. Amber faces tragedy after tragedy in her family and at school. She refuses to ask for help even when her situation becomes dire.
But Amber’s friends once again save the day and while things aren’t the way they used to be, she has a future to look forward to.
Don’t let the Netflix trailer for this movie fool you. It’s a tough watch. It certainly has it’s light moments but the dark moments will hit you right in the heart.
