Netflix movies and shows: The Sleepover

If you’re looking for a fun kid’s movie to watch and you missed The Sleepover when it came to Netflix this summer, you’ll definitely want to check it out now. The premise of the film is that two kids find out that their mom is a former thief and in witness protection. She must pull one last job, but when things go wrong, they team up with their friends to save her.

The Sleepover stars Malin Ackerman, Ken Marino, Joe Manganiello, Sadie Stanley, Maxwell Simkins, Cree Cicchino, and Lucas Jaye. It came to Netflix on Aug 21.

Their mother, Margot, is found by the crime syndicate she ratted on due to a viral YouTube video where she is scolding two bullies who were making fun of and recording her son, Kevin, dancing in the bathroom. Now that she’s been found, they want her to run one more job with them.

While this encounter is happening, Kevin and his friend Lewis are having a sleepover in the backyard, and his sister, Clancy, and friend, Mim, are sneaking out to a party.

Lewis sees the encounter with Margot and runs to tell the others. When they run back into the house, they meet a US Marshal who tells them the truth about their mother. Talk about a shocking revelation!

Luckily, their mother is smart and left them clues as to her whereabouts that lead them to a secret spy center (why can’t this stuff happen in real life??). But their journey is not without its issues.

They have to jump off a boat when they are caught by the US Coast Guard. But it turns out to be lucky because they end up finding a building they believe their parents are in.

Margot and Ron (their dad) aren’t there, but Margot’s best friend, Jay, is and he helps them locate her through her GPS. Apparently, she has a chip implanted in her? They locate her at a fancy gala, but Jay tells them to stay where they are. Kids being kids, they handcuff her to a pipe and make their way to a gala.

Margot’s job doesn’t really go to plan either. Her, Ron, and her ex, Leo, who was also a criminal, are supposed to steal a crown by poisoning Queen Elise. Unfortunately, Ron ends up ingesting the poison and throws up everywhere. They get away and run into the kids who snuck into the gala.

But the adventure does not end there. The kids get to see their mom kick butt and take names. If you’re looking for a fun action movie with not too much violence, The Sleepover is the perfect movie for you.
