Netflix movies and shows: The Baby-Sitters Club
If you missed The Baby-Sitters Club when it came out this summer, you need to immediately fix that and go watch it right now. It’s one of the most heartwarming and realistic shows for young girls and teens out there.
It’s obviously based on the book series by Ann M. Martin that some of us were obsessed with back in the day, but it’s been updated to now with all the real-world problems girls might face today. Whether that be racism, family problems, school issues, or fights with friends, this show covers it and does so in a really smart way.
The main premise is that a group of five middle schoolers come together to start a babysitting business in their town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut.
The show starts off with Kristy realizing how much money she could make by starting up a babysitting agency when her mother can’t find a babysitter. And that’s how the club begins. She gets her best friends, Mary Anne, Claudia and Stacey to join in. Their first gig is with Kristy’s soon-to-be stepdad, much to Kristy’s chagrin, and he tells his friends about the business and it starts booming.
As the season goes on the girls must deal with a rival club stealing their clients, problems with their parents, health issues, bullying, misgendering of one of the kids they’re babysitting, new friends, lies, crushes, periods, and everything that comes with being a teenager or preteen.
The Baby-Sitters Club stars Sophie Grace, Momona Tamada, Shay Rudolph, Malia Baker, Xochitl Gomez and Alicia Silverstone.
