6 Netflix movies and shows to watch if you like Enola Holmes

Watch these Netflix movies and shows like Enola Holmes

Enola Holmes is based on the Nancy Springer book series and stars Millie Bobby Brown, Henry Cavill, and Sam Clafin.

The movie features the young Enola Holmes, sister to Sherlock and Mycroft, on a mission to find her missing mother. The movie hit Netflix on Wednesday, Sept, 23 and if you watched it and are now looking for something similar to watch, we have some suggestions.

1. Stranger Things

Sure, this doesn’t seem like an obvious comparable show to Enola Holmes, but if you like Millie Bobbie Brown in one thing, chances are you’ll like her in something else too. Stranger Things also has similar storytelling elements. They both have kids going on adventures, sibling relationships, and female characters using their powers (intellectual or sci-fi) for the greater good. What more could you want?

2. The Sleepover

While this might be way more modern than Enola Holmes, the premises are pretty similar. The parents in The Sleepover go missing (kidnapped in this case) and the kids are tasked with finding them. A similar event happens in Enola Holmes. Her mother goes missing and she must find her. There’s also just as much butt-kicking. And Enola has to go undercover and these kids use spy gear to help find their parents. If you like Enola Holmes, you should love this, too.

3. The Witcher

Want to see more of Henry Cavill being charming? Ok, you could probably watch any of his movies and/or interviews for that, but The Witcher is definitely one of his best roles ever and worth watching if you loved him as Sherlock Holmes in this movie.

There also happens to be a young girl, Ciri, who must go on an adventure to find the person (Geralt of Rivia) who is meant to help her. Enola is looking for her mother who has helped her become the person we see her at the beginning of the movie. These storylines are quite similar.

4. The Baby-Sitters Club

If you liked the empowered female character that is Enola Holmes, you might also enjoy the many empowered girls in The Baby-Sitters Club. The show is adapted from the popular Ann M. Martin book series and follows a group of girls who start a babysitter business while trying to deal with the issues that arise in their everyday lives. Not only is this an adaptation of a book series like Enola Holmes, but it also shows girls doing things for themselves. What’s better than that?

5. Sherlock

This is probably the most obvious choice on the list. Chances are if you like Enola Holmes and the mystery of figuring out where her mother is and all the trouble she finds herself in along the way, you’d probably be interested in Sherlock as well. The show stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, respectively, and follows them as they solve murders in modern-day London. While Benedict Cumberbatch may not play Sherlock like Henry Cavill does, he still does a stellar job. I recommend season 1. It kind of goes a bit off the rails after that.

6. Anne with an E

Not only does Anne with an E take place around the same time as Enola Holmes, it’s also based on a book series. The show also features a young girl who goes on an adventure and must find her way around a new place by herself. Enola Holmes might have grown up in England, but since she spent most of her time at home with her mother, exploring London is as new to her as Prince Edward Island is to Anne.
