Seven Seconds is a powerful new Netflix Original series that debuted on Jan. 23, 2018. The series begins with a hit and run involving a new narcotics officer who joined a new task force in New Jersey. In a panic, the officer calls his commanding officer who gives him the bright idea to leave the scene and he and his two other cop buddies will clean up the scene and make it appear that he was never there.

The boy ends up dying later in the hospital but the dirty cops thought they had the perfect cover story to frame an elderly homeless drunk man for the hit and run. But prosecutor KJ Harper (Ashitey) discovers that there is something amiss about this cover story and begins to search for the truth and find out who was driving the car that struck and killed Brenton Butler.

While she and homicide detective Joe “Fish” Rinaldi begin their search, the Butler family mourns the loss in very different ways. The father (Hornsby) relies on his faith while the mother (King) abandons her faith and goes through different stages of grief where she wants to find the boy’s killer to forgetting about him entirely to wanting to seek revenge. You don’t want to miss this show for the performances from King and Hornsby alone, but the dirty cop angle and the racial tensions presented in the series make it a show you have to see.

There is only one season of the series available to stream on Netflix.
