The Ranch star Sam Elliott has been cast in Family Guy season 19

The Ranch star Sam Elliott has found a new gig.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Elliott has joined the cast of Family Guy for season 19. Elliot is playing Wild Wild West, the new mayor of Quahog.

Adam West played the mayor in more than 100 episodes of the series. West passed away in 2017, and the show had not replaced the character yet.

According to the report, the star of Netflix’s The Ranch was asked to play himself in the series, the same way West always did, but Elliott declined. Instead, the creative team figured out the best way to bring Elliott into the series without bringing him to the series if you know what I mean.

Here’s what Richard Appel, the executive producer of the series, told EW about casting Elliott in the series:

"“He just felt like he didn’t want to play himself. Which made us go back thinking, ‘Well, all right, is there someone else?’ And we thought, ‘Wait a minute, that note is a smart note. Because that was more what Adam West was doing. And the new mayor shouldn’t be another real-world celebrity playing himself within our fictional world. So we kicked around a bunch of ideas and then said, ‘What if we refashion this as Wild West for Sam Elliott and create this new character?’ And he responded very well to that idea.”"

It’s yet to be determined how much Elliott will be involved with the series. We’ll be sure to share that information as soon as we find out.

Family Guy season 19 is scheduled to premiere on FOX on Sept. 27, 2020. You can watch the season premiere at 9:30 p.m.

We’re hoping to see Elliott on Netflix again soon. Unfortunately, Family Guy isn’t available to stream on Netflix, and it won’t be added to Netflix in the future, most likely.

The Ranch is not coming back for Part 9 on Netflix. The series came to an end on Netflix after Part 8 was added to the streaming service in January 2020. Shortly after, we saw Elliott in a Super Bowl commercial with Lil Nas X set to “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X for Doritos.

According to IMDB, Elliott’s only project in the works right now is a documentary about Gettysburg. He recently starred in A Star is Born with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. He was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the film.
