Rebecca, a new Netflix movie that is an adaptation of the 1938 novel written by Daphne du Maurier, is coming to Netflix on Oct. 21.
Netflix shared the trailer for Rebecca, and you can watch below.
Ben Wheatly, the director, has told Variety that the film does span across genres but first and foremost, it is a love story.
This film stars Armie Hammer and Lily James. The movie follows their characters’ whirlwind romance that flows into a relationship as husband and wife at Manderley, Hammer’s character’s family estate.
Hammer portrays the wealthy Maxim de Winter, and James plays his new wife, who must endure the memory of his late first wife.
Hammer is known for his roles in Call Me by Your Name and The Social Network. James made a name for herself in Downton Abbey and has also starred in the live-action Cinderella, Darkest Hour, and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.
Kristen Scott Thomas plays the disturbing housekeeper who is diligent at keeping the memory of her late mistress fresh in the mind of the new Mrs. de Winter.
Scott Thomas is known for The English Patient, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and co-starred with James in Darkest Hour. The film also stars Tom Goodman-Hill, Keeley Hawes, Sam Riley, and Ann Dowd.
The trailer below shows us the romance between the two lovers and carries over into their new life at Manderley.
The trailer starts with a brilliant meet cute and goes on to show the romance blossom between the two main characters. After a simple proposal of marriage, the two head to Manderley, and we are introduced to Mrs. Danvers, the housekeeper. As things progress, it seems that the late Mrs. de Winter, Rebecca’s presence is still very evident in the home. Max tells his new wife, “All marriages have their secrets.”
Rebecca, the novel, has been adapted many times, most famously by Alfred Hitchcock in the 1940s. This adaptation starred Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine and received 11 Academy Award nominations. The film won for Best Picture and Best Cinematography.
