Lucifer season 6 episode count

Lucifer season 6 will be shorter than fans were expecting, consisting of only eight episodes.

We know goodbyes are best kept short and sweet, but this piece of news is bittersweet.  Lucifer season 6 will only be eight episodes.

UPDATE: Lucifer season 6 will actually be 10 episodes, according to D.B. Woodside.

Sweet because we are still so excited Lucifer will at least be getting another season after fans wouldn’t let the hype die down. But bitter because we were expecting at least 10 episodes. In fact, it seems even Tom Ellis thought a 10 episode final season was happening.

In an interview with The Wrap, the Lucifer actor shared that there is enough story for a “10-episode final season.”

Now, TV Line reports that we are in for a shorter-than-expected season! So what happened? Well, a few things!

Here’s why Lucifer season 6 will only be 8 episodes

Two big things here, Lucifans: The unexpected season 6 renewal and the COVID-19 outbreak.

The showrunners and writers have previously shared how they were delighted to get more episodes and worked around it, but they truly didn’t see a whole new season renewal coming after Netflix previously announced that season 5 would be the final season.

It sounds like they even took a few days to think about whether or not to accept Netflix’s offer. They ultimately accepted and planned accordingly. But, it’s understandable that they don’t want to stretch out the story too long.

Why drag it when you can give it an amazing ending? Another thing preventing more episodes could be the COVID-19 outbreak.

Production for Lucifer resumes Thursday, Sept. 24, so this has put a delay on things. All in all, an eight-episode final season isn’t bad! I’m looking forward to each character getting the story and ending they deserve.

No word on when Lucifer season 5, part 2 will premiere, we are expecting it early-2021. We’ll be sure to keep you posted.

While we wait, be sure to watch all available episodes of Lucifer on Netflix.
