Away is Netflix’s newest show, but is it any good?

Netflix has released another series with a big name attached to it. Hilary Swank is no stranger to the streaming network, but is her latest project, Away, worth the watch?

These days, in order for any series or movie based on a journey to space, it truly needs to have an extra element or factor to be able to stand out. Simply put, most ideas have been said and done. Here’s how Away differs from the rest and what audiences think about it so far.

Away, written by Jason Katims and Jessica Goldberg, has a familiar concept. It follows Emma Green (Hilary Swank), an American astronaut who has been chosen to lead a crew on the first mission trip to Mars. It’s an incredible honor, but Emma is sacrificing a lot to go as she is leaving her family behind.

Is Away good?

In every movie and series I can remember, there is always someone there who is making a similar sacrifice, but the way that challenge is handled in Away is what makes it so impactful.

For most pieces of work in the same genre, it’s the graphics or story that are the highlight, but not for this new Netflix seriesOf course, this isn’t to say either aren’t spectacular, but the big way Away stand out is the emotional element.

If you watch this series without shedding a tear, check your pulse! The story is so well told and character-driven, that it feels personal. We can thank Swank for this as her performance reflects on screen. Not that we expected anything less from the Academy Award-winning actress.

The Netflix shows put its characters and their stories first, and that’s refreshing to see and saves the series from being a copy of the rest.

Overall, the series has a 69 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It might not be joining the list of the best Netflix shows of 2020 so far, but it’s definitely not bad.

Away season 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
