Netflix adds almost 40 new movies and shows on September 1

September is finally here, and while that means we can all officially get into the fall spirit, it also means a ton of new movies and shows will be added to Netflix on Sept. 1.

All these new movies and shows might not all be new to you, but sometimes, it’s fun to rewatch an old favorite.

It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a classic film, a famous franchise, a series from the 90s, or some content for your kids (or the kid in your heart), Netflix has something for everyone this Sept. 1.

If you’re looking for a classic movie, both Glory and Grease are coming to Netflix today!

Glory stars Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Cary Elwes, Andre Braugher, and Matthew Broderick and follows the first all-Black volunteer company during the Civil War. They had to face racism from the Union soldiers and the Confederate ones. If you can watch this movie and not cry, do you really have a heart??

Grease stars Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta as teens (despite looking way older) who fall in love over the summer, but once they realize they’re going to the same high school, can they keep their relationship going? This one is worth a rewatch for the music alone.

If you’re more in the mood for a franchise, all three Back to the Future movies are coming to Netflix today as well. The trilogy stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown, respectively. With the help of Dr. Brown’s time machine, Marty is able to travel back and forth through time. Trying not to change the past so the present and the future stay the same is not as easy as you might think.

If you’re looking for a bit of nostalgia, the 90s show, Sister, Sister hits Netflix today. All six seasons are available. The show stars Tia and Tamara Mowry as twins separated at birth who find each other as teenagers. Once they know of each other’s existence, they convince their parents that they must live together.

Trying to find something for your kids to watch? Netflix has a ton of stuff for them today. From Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices to The Muppets to Thomas the Tank Engine to Puss in Boots, there is something for kids of all ages.

Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices features a bunch of Black celebrities reading books about being Black. The stars include Common, Lupita, Nyong’o, Misty Copeland, and Jill Scott. The show is hosted by teen activist Marley Dias.

The 2011 film The Muppets is not the only Muppets content you can look out for today. The 2014 sequel, Muppet’s Most Wanted is also available.

You can also check out season 24 (wow) of Thomas and Friends, the musical, Barbie Princess Adventure, and Puss in Boots, the spin-off from the character in Shrek 2.

Magic Mike and Pineapple Express are also coming to Netflix on Sept. 1.

No matter what you’re looking for, you’ll more than likely find something to enjoy from the list of movies and shows coming to the streaming service today.
