It’s the first day of September and you know what that means—it’s almost Halloween. Now that summer is nearly over, the Halloween celebration can begin in earnest. Hands down the best part of the holiday is watching your favorite Halloween movies.

‘Tis the season, so we’ve compiled a list of a few spooky movies on Netflix so that you can get into the trick or treat spirit. Some of the movies on this list are scary, while others are more light-hearted.

Here are eight of the best Halloween movies on Netflix.

1. The Addams Family

Based on the cartoon characters created by Charles Addams, The Addams Family follows the odd, wealthy, and morbid titular family. The first film chronicles the Addams’ reunion with who they believe to be their long-lost family member Fester Addams, but Fester is not what he seems.

2. Monster Family

This animated flick follows the disconnected Wishbone family as their Halloween plans go awry. When the family members are cursed to transform into the monsters they were dressed as, they must stick together to get everything back to normal.

3. Scary Movie V

The fifth installment in the Scary Movie film series, Scary Movie V parodies various horror movies and other aspects of pop culture.

4. A Haunted House

A Haunted House is a great parody of found footage horror movies. When Malcolm and Kisha move into their new place, the couple quickly begins to suspect that there’s something paranormal going on in their house.

5. Poltergeist

Poltergeist is a classic for a reason. When their young daughter is taken by vengeful spirits, her family will do anything they can to rescue her. However, the ghosts behind their daughter’s kidnapping are far more sinister than they realize.

6. Spookley the Square Pumpkin

Spookley the Square Pumpkin is an animated children’s movie about, you guessed it, a square pumpkin named Spookley. Although Spookley is bullied for his shape, his uniqueness soon becomes the only thing that can help his fellow pumpkins and save Halloween.

7. All Hallows’ Eve

All Hallows’ Eve follows a young woman named Eve who discovers that she is a witch. Struggling to control her newfound powers, she accidentally summons a vengeful ancestor.

8. The Witches

The Witches is the second movie starring Anjelica Huston on this list. Based on the Roald Dahl novel of the same name, this film follows a young boy named Luke as he tries to outsmart a group of witches bent on ridding the world of children.
