What is Julie and the Phantoms?

Julie and the Phantoms is a new Netflix original musical series that will drop on Sept. 10.

The new Netflix show was adapted from a 2011 Brazilian series, Julie e os Fantasmas, about a 15-year-old girl who, with the help of three ghosts from a boy band, discovers her hidden musical talent. Netflix’s version will follow that same basic storyline.

Julie and the Phantoms stars newcomer Madison Reyes as the title character, Julie. The Phantoms include Charlie Gillespie as Luke, Jeremy Shada as Reggie and Owen Patrick Joyner as Alex.

Also appearing in the series are Jadah Marie as Flynn, Savannah Lee May as Carrie, Booboo Stewart as Willie and Cheyenne Jackson as Caleb Covington.

If it has a High School Musical and Descendants kind of flavor, that might be because it’s directed by the same man responsible for those, Kenny Ortega.

Executive producers include Dan Cross and Dave Hoge. Choreographer Paul Becker (DescendantsMirror Mirror) also lends his talents to the series.

What is Julie and The Phantoms about?

Julie used to love music, then her mom died and so did Julie’s passion for playing piano or singing. However, will the ghosts from The Phantoms, a 1995 boy band, help her find her love for music again?

Judging from the trailer, that’s not the only kind of love Julie finds. A romance blossoms between her and Luke, one of the Phantoms.

Complicating matters, the Phantoms have business of their own to solve so that they can finally crossover. Can Julie help them before its too late? And what will that mean for her and Luke’s love story?

Julie and the Phantoms episode count

The Brazilian version of Julie and the Phantoms included 26 episodes, but it only lasted one season.

IMDB lists that the Netflix version has nine episodes. Netflix doesn’t note that it will be a limited series, so can we expect a season 2?

Perhaps, but a lot of factors play into that first, right? Perhaps the biggest of which is how well-received season 1 is.

My hunch is that it’ll be a hit. I think Julie and the Phantoms looks like a lot of fun, and I predict it will nab a Top 10 spot when it drops on Sept. 10.
