Netflix shared the new trailer for Julie and the Phantoms

Netflix just released the Julie and the Phantoms trailer on social media! The new Netflix original musical series will drop on Thursday, Sept.10.

The trailer showcases heart, high-energy, feel-good fun and lots of music. If it happens to remind you of High School Musical, that’s for good reason. It was created by the same person, Kenny Ortega. (He’s also behind Descendants, too.)

However, while Julie and the Phantoms is definitely a musical series, it’s also definitely marching to its own beat. It stars newcomer Madison Reyes as the title character, Julie, who is a teen struggling to enjoy music like she once did after her mom dies.

Watch the trailer below!

From the trailer, we see that the passion for playing the piano was something she enjoyed because of her mom. Now it only serves to remind Julie of the void in her life now that her mom is gone.

Or is she? Does she send Julie a special gift in the form of a group of spirited musicians?

While out in the garage, Julie finds an old record and suddenly a boy band, The Phantoms, who have been dead for 25 years, appears. As any person in their right mind might, Julie freaks out about the strangers who materialize out of thin air and runs screaming to her dad (Cheyenne Jackson) for help.

That’s the start of Julie’s relationship with the Phantoms, who are comprised of Luke (Charlie Gillespie), Reggie (Jeremy Shada) and Alex (Owen Patrick Joyner). With Julie’s gift for music, the Phantoms realize she can help them become bigger in their afterlife than they ever were while alive. That’s also how they help Julie find her passion for making music again.

But, of course, there are problems too. An afterlife may be forever, but it appears the Phantoms won’t be sticking around forever. Can Julie help them accomplish whatever it is they need to do so they can peacefully cross over?

The Julie and the Phantoms trailer reveals a lot of fun teases, from the fact that people can see the ghosts to the love story between Julie and Luke. Oh, and a bunch of great singing and dancing too.

Hopefully, this new Netflix offering will make up for some of the Netflix series that have recently been canceled and left a lot of fans feeling pretty grim. Because Julie and the Phantoms looks like a very spirited musical series with the power to inspire and uplift. We’ll find out what it’s capable of when it drops on Sept.10!
