Netflix canceled Altered Carbon after two seasons

Altered Carbon has been canceled at Netflix after two seasons. According to a report from Deadline, the sci-fi series will not return for season 3.

Obviously, this news is a bummer for fans of the hit Netflix show. The first season premiered on Netflix in February 2018 and was an instant hit for the streaming network. It took two years for the second season to arrive on Netflix. It premiered on the streaming service on Feb. 27, 2020.

Altered Carbon season 2 was not quite as big of a hit as the first season. It featured a new cast, for the most part, including Marvel star Anthony Mackie.

Overall, this cancellation news is not all that surprising. Netflix has canceled some popular shows recently with The Society and I Am Not Okay With This getting the ax at the streaming network.

Normally, we hear about Netflix renewals a few months after the season airs. Unfortunately, we didn’t hear much about season 3, and as it turns out, that was a very bad sign.

According to the report, the decision to cancel Altered Carbon was made way back in April and then held from the public for some reason.

I have to wonder how much the pandemic impacted this decision, though. This show is definitely one of the most expensive Netflix shows to make, and if Netflix viewers didn’t tune in to watch the second season, Netflix would not proceed with season 3.

This is obviously a bummer for fans of the series, and it’s never fun to have to write about fans’ favorite shows getting canceled. I’m sure there will be some fan outcry and a few petitions for another network to save this show, but I think the decision is final here, especially if Netflix truly made this decision back in April.

We’re sorry to be the bearers of bad news. You can always check out the first two seasons of Altered Carbon on Netflix. Those seasons aren’t going anywhere!
