Top 5 Deckerstar moments in Lucifer Season 5, Part 1
The 5 Deckerstar moments in Lucifer Season 5, part 1
Picking our favorite Deckerstar moments in a Lucifer season full of Deckerstar moments feels like a fool’s errand. All Deckerstar moments are valid, okay? We love them all!
And yet, there are always some that hit us more deeply than others, for whatever reason. Maybe because they feel like a culmination of a journey, or perhaps because we have indeed been waiting for what feels like 84 years for them to finally happen.
So join me as I attempt to pick out my favorites from an already stacked deck! Remember, there are plenty of spoilers here, so we suggest you go binge the season first before checking out this list.
Deckerstar consummates their relationship
Well, hell froze over indeed! What Chloe said was never, ever going to happen ended up happening in Lucifer season 5, part 1, to no one’s surprise. This was always the journey we were on, after all. But the best part wasn’t just that it happened – or even that the show didn’t back down from giving both fans and characters what they deserved, but the way it happened
Because it was a choice they both made, a choice not just to have sex, no, but to start a relationship together. A choice to become a unit. There’s no uncertainty in the way they come together, this was no heat of the moment thing. No, they both know what this means, and we do too.
It means everything.
Choosing vulnerability
The final scene of episode five of Lucifer season 5, part 1, “Detective Amenadiel” is a watershed moment for this couple. Yes, later on they’ll choose each other, in every way that counts, but this is the moment where they do so emotionally.
In many ways, you could say Lucifer has been choosing that for ages—he is, after all, vulnerable around Chloe because he chooses to be, and she, in turn, decides that the only thing she can do is be vulnerable too.
But was it really a decision if Lucifer didn’t know he was making it? No, this is the moment where they face each other, all cards on the table and finally take that step forward.
Together.
“Our mojo”
Lucifer’s thing, what’s made him feel useful, has always been his mojo. He can draw out people’s desires. And in episode seven of Lucifer season 5, titled “Our Mojo,” Lucifer feels like he’s lost his power and transferred it to Chloe. Except her power only works on him?
It’s a fun episode that taps into the vulnerabilities of starting a new relationship, but most importantly, it’s an episode about adapting, and about finding a new normal that isn’t about what you want, or about what the other person wants, but what’s best for both of you…as a couple.
We never thought we’d get here, to a point where these two were not only together, but adapting to being a real, confirmed couple. And what a joy it was to see it.
Domesticity
The moments of domesticity that we got were, though brief, one of my favorite things about the way the Deckerstar relationship progressed in Lucifer season 5, part 1. There are a lot of things these two have to learn, still a lot of walls to knock down, but the fact that Lucifer is willing to let Chloe into his space, willing to find a new normal at the end of the day that’s not just about him…it means a lot.
Because neither of them has had the best luck with intimacy, much less relationships. And that’s understandable, intimacy is hard. Letting someone into your space is hard. Wanting to let someone into your space, though…that’s the first step towards a relationship that’s a real partnership and not just about lust.
Which, of course, leads me to …
I lo-
Of course, he didn’t say it, because we still have to suffer and Lucifer season 5, part 2 has to give us some payoff. But he was going to say it. He wanted to say it. He might not really understand the power of the words, he might not be used to them, but he feels them. His expression made it clear. His bafflement at her question made it clear.
Lucifer loves Chloe and Chloe loves Lucifer. There’s no doubt about this. But part of the journey of these two is about, not healing the wounds of life for each other, but deciding that you now have someone in your life that makes you want to not just do better, but be better.
For you, for them, for both of you. That’s true love, right there. The good kind. The healthy kind. The Deckerstar kind.
