Hoops starring Jake Johnson will be released on Friday, August 21

Late tonight, Netflix releases the entire ten-episode first season of its new animated series Hoops. The new Netflix show will be available to stream at 12:01 a.m. PT (3:01 a.m. ET).

The series is led by Jake Johnson (New Girl, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), who voices Coach Ben Hopkins, “a hot-headed, foul-mouthed high school basketball coach who thinks turning around his God-awful team will take him to the ‘big leagues,'” according to Deadline.

The series is created by comedian Ben Hoffman and co-produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind such hits as The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street movie series.

Joining Johnson in the voice cast are Rob Riggle (SNL, The Hangover), who voices Ben’s father, a former pro athlete turned steakhouse owner. Natasha Leggero will voice Shannon, Ben’s estranged wife with a history of impulsive behavior and rash decisions but is focused on making her horse farm a success.

Ron Funches voices Ron, Ben’s assistant coach and best friend. Cleo King will voice Ben’s boss and principal of Lenwood High who doesn’t like her job and is nearly as foul-mouthed as Ben. Finally, A.D. Miles voices Matty, a 16-year-old 7-footer whose father abandoned him when he was young.

Hoops recently released a teaser and full trailer. Both bring its NSFW tone to the forefront. The series is following in the footsteps of Netflix’s string of successful, both critically and commercially, animated original series.

Personally, I’m most excited to see the crazy, colorful and crude antics of Coach Hopkins, a character who seems influenced by Big Mouth‘s Coach Steve with the vulgar motormouth of hormone monster Maury.

Take a look at both videos below, and stay tuned for our review of the first season of Hoops later this week! And let us know what you’re most excited for in Hoops, out on Netflix tonight!
